Rule Number one; do not show weakness. As far as anyone knows, you are emotionless. This is the buffer he had used for pain for years. After his first supernatural encounter, the walls that surrounded the man grew higher and higher with a simple thought - if no one could get close to him he wouldn't ever need to feel pain like that ever again. A lot of his youth is what shaped him to be the man he is today. At a young age Noah was adopted into a family who were unable to bare their own children. It was no secret he was adopted, even if his parents wanted to keep it from him they couldn't. Being rich socialites - this was the kind of environment that Noah grew up in. Strangers cooing over him and giving his parents praise for adopting a poor boy, how they were such good people. That wasn't their motive and Noah knew it, he knew how much they loved and cared for him like their own - so he just played along with it to make the other people happy. Ever since he could walk and talk he was being taught manners and the social standards that were expected of him. With a practiced smile and manners that stunned and charmed those who met him, it was never questioned that he had what it took to live this life style. However having to be so picture perfect all the time did lead to some rebellious teen moments such as sneaking out to meet with his friends to drink and get a quick fix. Behind that perfect mask he was far from it. He had a secret girlfriend and a best friend who weren't on the same social standing as he was, but he was never bothered by it and neither were they. They got into all kinds of trouble and they loved it. However when everything got flipped upside down it was rough waters. When a new friend turned out to be a vampire; he lost two of the closest people in his life and almost lost his own life. Saved by a hunter he didn't waste time in going down that road. Quick to pick up on his lore and lots of practice; he was a natural hunter in no time. From there it wasn't too long before he picked up respect of his fellow hunters and started down the path of becoming the Proxy. Looked up to by some and despised by many his attitude was the biggest turn off. While he was all perfect smiles and manners in his high class life, that was never really who he was. An actor if you ever saw one, Noah can switch between masks for whatever situation he needs to. Once he took on hunting, Noah had put safeguards on all of his families information to keep his parents safe, and separated himself from them during his work. Rather to hurt himself then to let them get dragged into this mess, he was very careful about what information he gave away and to who.
Roderick was the result of teen love, and it resulted in him being passed around for most of his youth. It wasn't until he was sixteen that he found a family that welcomed and accepted him. He was able to catch a fleeting glimpse of happiness, but all good things end–and his ended tragically. He'd skipped school and come home to a macabre. There was nothing left of his family, and he was back into the system until he was eighteen. Somewhere along the way, he stumbled across the hunters, and it made him realize what had really happened to his family. Vampires. An overwhelming hatred remains in his heart for them. His life has left him bitter, cynical, and somewhat reckless. His actions are fueled by deep anger, and it makes him lash out. It's something he's never been able to cope with. Lashing out is the only form of expression he knows, and he keeps people at a distance in fear that he might lose them. He can't afford to care. His heart just can't handle anymore loss. He channels everything he feels into hunting, and part of him believes that fighting and keeping his trauma at the back of his mind and near his heart is keeping the only form of family he ever knew alive. Letting them go, letting it all go would mean forgetting them and how wonderful they were. It would also let in the guilt that he didn't appreciate them enough, and he gave them a hard time because he was afraid that they might abandon him too. If he could go back, in a perfect world, he would say the right things and do better things. He'd make them proud. Maybe he wouldn't be so angry and disgusted with himself if he had. But life isn't perfect, and all there is to do is hunt and bury feelings in sex, alcohol, and cigarettes.
